A Study of the Juvenile Delinquency Factors on Drop-out Adolescents: Focusing on Returning to School and Containment Theory

초록

Adolescents choose to drop-out school for a variety of reasons. However, adolescents who have drop-out school are exposed to the prejudice that they are "troublemakers" and have limited opportunities to achieve their customary goals compared to those who attend school, and may not be protected because they are exposed to violations or are in blind spots of welfare. There are teenagers who are frustrated by this situation and choose delinquency, but there are also teenagers who try to achieve their goals through legal means. This study focused on these differences and tried to explain the cause of the difference through containment theory. To this end, it was analyzed using data from the second year of the "A Longitudinal Survey and Support Plan for Dropouts" by the National Youth Policy Institute. As a result of the analysis, impulsivity was found to be a factor affecting juvenile delinquency in both groups. In addition, in the return-to-school group, the outer containment factor was the only significant influence, and in the non-return-to-school group, community disorder was found to be affecting delinquency along with impulsivity. Through the results of this study, we propose to provide impulse control programs centered on drop-out youth support centers and to educate parents on conversation skills.
