소설 <유진과 유진> 뮤지컬 텍스트 각색 연구 - 메타연극적 특성을 중심으로-

초록

This paper aims to investigate the adaptation of performance texts using the meta-theatrical adaptation technique, which has not been widely explored in South Korea. We conducted this study on a domestically created musical, "Eugene and Eugene," which was adapted from a domestic novel, using Richard Hornby's perspective on meta-theatrical techniques. First, we examined the research background and objectives. Second, we explored the theory and background of meta-theatricality. Third, we analyzed the structure of the original novel, "Eugene and Eugene," by the author Lee Geum, from three different perspectives. Fourth, we investigated the structure of the musical "Eugene and Eugene" and conducted a comparative study with the original work. In doing so, we aim to grasp the meta-theatrical adaptation techniques employed in the musical, focusing on in-play theater, role-playing references to literature and real-life events. The process of adapting the original novel into a musical is a significant part of the current process in South Korean musical theater production. However, there are not many case studies on the adaptation of the original novel into a musical performance text in South Korea. Therefore, we intend to analyze the adaptation of the original novel into a musical text using meta-theatrical adaptation techniques and present it as a case study. By researching and presenting the techniques as concrete and precise techniques for musical adaptation, we believe it is possible to expand the spatio-temporal dimensions of the original work and create more in-depth and multidimensional events and characters.
