지구촌 문제, 현실과 환상의 표상 및 의미- 소설 「선택의 아이」를 중심으로
초록
This paper examines how the real problems of the global village revealed in the short story "The Child of Choice" are represented in the works and what their meanings are. Cambodia, a poor country, its neighboring countries, and the setting of the characters have a symbolic meaning of developing and poor countries in revealing global problems. Realistic problems such as poverty, gender equality, prostitution, and education, which are universal problems of humanity, are symbolically shown through the names of real regions and the stories of whales. Especially for children in poor countries, education and learning are important factors in gaining knowledge and information as well as awareness of problems. Furthermore, it reveals global environmental issues such as environmental pollution and extinction of living organisms. Through the setting where the protagonist 'Kana' and the whale 'Pu' have a conversation, reality and fantasy are exquisitely combined, and various symbolism is revealed. This novel comprehensively reveals the common goals of humanity, such as the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), by revealing actual global problems, and asks questions about how to put them into practice. TIt combines realism and fantasy to compose the work, without directly slogans about the perception of reality and raising issues. It is also unique in that it combines mythological and fantastical elements with current global issues and has been reborn in a literary sense.
