The fall of Ganghwa Island during the Byeongja Horan was a tragedy for the women of Joseon’s prestigious families who fled there. The dead gained names, and the survivors lost names. Some have lost both. Such was the case with Lee Min-gu’s female family members, who were responsible for defending Ganghwa Island. The capture of Lee Min-gu’s wife, Haepyeong Yoon, and her two daughters-in-law were no different from what befell the women of the sajok family in Ganghwa Island. However, because of Lee Min-goo, the head of the family, they suffered more damage than necessary. Lee Min-goo’s family members were also criticized because he failed to protect Ganghwa Island properly, and as a result, members of many influential families were killed or taken prisoner. However, the bigger problem was that Lee Min-goo’s attempt to turn his wife’s scandal into a story of chastity failed and the situation got worse. Because Haepyeong Yoon, who became a prisoner of war, did not show the general appearance of a prisoner of war, she was known as a representative example of several ugly things caused by the Byeongja Horan. When Lee Min-goo failed to fabricate symbols for his wife, and ultimately for himself and his family, this time he wrote in a way to thoroughly erase their existence. Lee Min-goo called only his father by his wife and daughter-in-law’s mediated human relationships, and emphasized the strong friendship and friendship with them. While he mourned his son’s death and lamented their outstanding talents, he did not speak properly of their spouses. He erased and covered the existence of female family members in his tombstone letters and poems he wrote over his 80 lifetimes, which he wrote with his outstanding writing skills. Expelled from the physical space of Joseon due to bureaucrat Lee Min-gu’s incompetence, expelled from the discourse space due to her husband Lee Min-gu’s wrong handling, and finally denied even being by him, they were the biggest victims of the Byeongjahoran.
