초록

This paper identifies semantic and pragmatic conditions in which exclamation can be licensed. In particular, it investigates the mechanism that enables exclamatory utterances in wh-expressions. Although exclamatory expressions usually involve mirativity, graduability and evaluativity are not necessarily required. While the sentence-ending marker –eora can only be used in exclamatory utterances to specify graduability and evaluativity, -guna can also be used in exclamatory speech to indicate mirativity. In addition, constructions such as eolmana –(eu)n-ji and wh + geureoke, classified as declarative or interrogative, may fulfill the felicity conditions of exclamative speech acts, required to convey surprise at the property whose degree exceeds the contextual standard.
