한국 낭독극에 대한 일고찰

A study on Korean reading plays

초록

This study focuses on reading plays, one of the recent ontological exploration methods of Korean theater. Korean reading plays, which were first performed on stage in the 1920s, have increased in quantity since the 2000s and have become a universally used performance format. Accordingly, by examining the traces of Korean reading plays and examining recent theatrical discourses surrounding reading plays, we capture the new possibilities of reading plays. The theatrical discourses surrounding reading plays can be categorized as follows according to the agenda. The fact that reading plays, which were considered unfinished performances, were interpreted as plays as a process, and the artistic effectiveness of reading plays, such as educational effects, ease of staging, and economic efficiency, were recognized; the new theatrical immersion provided by auditory content; the connectivity with online platforms; and the fact that matching with performances of adjacent genres encouraged the possibility of theatrical experimentation. Reading plays are a fluid and complete form of art that reaches a temporary completion point with the performance, but changes as they are reborn as stage plays. Considering the cultural situation of the 21st century, where the distinction between producers and recipients of art is becoming more blurred or overlapping, the future of reading plays that allow audiences to immerse themselves in the medium and properties of theater looks bright.
