2020년대 TV정통사극의 변화 양상: <고려거란전쟁>을 중심으로

Despite the fact that the main trend of history-themed TV series is away from the traditional history-themed TV series, still the traditional history-themed TV series are still in demand since there are viewers who appreciate the charm and value of this genre. Produced and aired amid this reality. <Korea-Khitan War> has revealed both positive changes and limitations. This study is to analyze this situation while almost no academic efforts have been made on Korean traditional history-themed TV series. It does not place its focus on the life or achievements of certain great figures while its history background is the Goryeo Dynasty instead of the Joseon Dynasty, which is commonly featured in history-themed TV series: those could be considered as the positive changes. Because it did not unilaterally follow the typical procedure for production of traditional history-themed TV series in Korea, it was able to present new characters as well as new ideas. On the other hand, although it was declared that <Korea-Khitan War> would be a war drama, it still emphasized the struggles of the royal family even if there could be a possibility of historical distortion, and its war scenes were rather less spectacle except for a few selected battles. These are limitations of Korean traditional history-themed TV series. In addition to fun, research on the limitations and possibilities of traditional History-Themed TV Series that perform the function of national identity and history education can give various implications for future content development and direction. If the direction and strategy of the production are taken by paying attention to positive changes and limitations, a more complete authentic historical drama will be created and viewers will be able to visit.
