Q방법론을 활용한 부모또래상담사업 참여 경험에 대한 주관성 연구: 경기지역 중심으로

Objectives: The objective of this study was to explore the subjective experiences of parents participating in the Parent Peer Counseling Program at a Youth Counseling and Welfare Center and to identify directions for program improvement. By examining parents’ perceptions of their counseling roles, this research contributes to theoretical understanding of peer-based interventions and provides practical insights for program development. Methods: Q methodology was applied to capture participants’ subjective viewpoints. Thirty-three parent peer counselors sorted 40 prepared statements along a quasi-normal distribution. Data collection and management were conducted using KADE (ver. 1.3.1). Principal component analysis with Varimax rotation was carried out, and results were analyzed and visualized with PQMethod 2.35. This process enabled the identification of distinct recognition patterns among participants. Results: Four types were identified: (1) Community-Oriented Growth, (2) Self-Reflective Experience, (3) Value-Sharing Practice, and (4) Activity-Oriented Engagement. Across all groups, participants strongly agreed on the importance of empathy, support, and continuous training, while showing low agreement with statements such as “inducing a sense of burden” and “confusion over counselor identity.” These findings are consistent with experiential learning theory, which views learning as a cycle of reflection, conceptualization, and practice, and with participatory praxis perspectives that emphasize participants as active agents. Implications: In practical terms the study highlights the need for type-specific training programs, regular supervision and mentoring, strengthened community-based networks, and program design informed by experiential learning principles. Academically, it is meaningful as the first domestic attempt to typologize parents as peer counselors from a subjective perspective. However, the reliance on a regional sample limits generalizability, underscoring the need for future comparative, longitudinal, and mixed-method research.
