초록
This study introduces the wooden tablets (mokkan) and inscribed roof tiles unearthed from the water storage facilities at the Cheokmun-ri Mountain Fortress (尺門里山城) in Namwon. Constructed by the Baekje Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period, the fortress has a total circumference of approximately 567 meters. Scholars have long suggested that this site may correspond to Gujihaseong (久知下城), the southern fortress among Baekje’s Five Directional Fortresses (五方城). A total of five wooden tablets were recovered from two water storage facilities within the fortress. Among these, the inscriptions include 「□巷」 on tablet No. 1, 「將德」 on No. 3, 「中巷」 and 「將德」 on No. 5, and 「上巷」 on No. 6. The term 「將德」 corresponds to the seventh rank (Jangdeok) in Baekje’s sixteen-tier official ranking system, referring to mid-level officials in the central administration. The terms 「上巷」 (Upper Alley) and 「中巷」 (Middle Alley) are interpreted as designations for administrative subdistricts within the five bu (divisions) and five hang (alleys) that composed the capital city of Sabi. Accordingly, the wooden tablets from Cheokmun-ri Mountain Fortress likely record activities in which officials of the Jangdeok rank, based in the Sanghang or Jung-hang districts of Sabi, were involved in the transport or payment of grain, such as barley (maek, 麥) amounting to two seok (石). Based on typological analysis of the associated pottery and inscribed roof tiles, these artifacts are dated to the late 6th to early 7th century.
