전략적 증거제시(SUE) 기법과 증거 강도(強度)의 진술 변화 판별 효과성

초록

Detecting deceptive clues and judging their truthfulness is an important part of police investigation interviews. An important problem in confrontation situations with suspects in investigation interviews is that strong suspects generally do not provide incriminating information, and the interview technique developed to address this is the strategic evidence presentation technique. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine how the strength of the evidence, which is the characteristic of evidence that can prove the crime, affects statements and changes in statements related to the crime when applied to the strategic evidence presentation technique. The mock crime task was divided into three stages, and all participants performed the same task without conditions. After watching a short hacking video task, they accessed the given site, entered hacking codes, and installed hacking programs using basic coding. They finished by retrieving documents containing key information and related content about hacking. The dependent variable was the change in statements, and it was confirmed how the statements changed at each stage of the interview. The results of the study showed that the stronger the evidence presented, the more changes in statements were made, and the more strategically the evidence was presented, the more crimes were admitted. However, the interaction effect according to the strength of evidence and the strategic evidence presentation technique was not significant. Finally, based on these results, the significance and limitations of the strength of evidence and the strategic evidence presentation technique were discussed, and suggestions were made for future research directions.
