"피곤하지만 멈출 수 없다" 정보과부하가 주관적 웰빙에 미치는 영향: 문제적 소셜미디어 이용, 피로감, 소외에 대한 두려움(FoMO)

“I’m tired but can’t stop”: How FoMO and Problematic Social Media Usage Exacerbate the Negative Effects of Information Overload on Subjective Well-being

초록

Previous studies have underscored the adverse effects of information overload on subjective well-being. However, the underlying mechanisms largely remain undefined. This research delves into the moderated mediation of problematic social media usage, social media fatigue, and fear of missing out (FoMO), examining their interactions' influence on the adverse repercussions of information overload on subjective well-being. Drawing from SSO (stress-strain-outcome) model, the findings from an online survey (N = 340) suggest that information overload negatively affects subjective well-being via triggering problematic social media use and social media fatigue. More crucially, this mediation was found to be significantly pronounced among individuals exhibiting higher FoMO levels. These results imply that FoMO might intensify the vicious cycle wherein individuals, despite feeling fatigued, are unable to cease problematic social media usage, thereby exacerbating the negative effects of information overload on subjective well-being. These results provide valuable insights and potential interventions for mitigating the adverse effects of information overload on subjective well-being.
