초록
Religious interests that caused the Han Dynasty Chinese to accept Buddhism include interest in transformation thoughts, rewards thoughts in good and bad acts, interest in nonaction (Wuwei 無爲), and ascetic practices for Wuwei. These elements were also inherited by the Buddhist Scholar-Officials’ religious interests in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. In other words, transformation thoughts and rewards thoughts were attributed to the Buddhist worldview. Meanwhile, interests in nonaction was attributed to interests in Xuanxue (玄學) on Wuwei Niepan (無爲涅槃). And the practice to reach Wuwei was attributed to the Buddhist practice. In this paper, I focused on how religious interests of Sun Chuo, a Buddhist scholar-official (奉佛士大夫) representing the Eastern Jin Era, motivated him to accept Buddhism. It was reviewed through his work, Youtiantaishanfu. With this research, it was found that the popularity of Prajñā thought, as a result of Xuanxue’s exploration of Nirvana, served as an opportunity for acceptance of Buddhism. Following this, it was possible to detect the religious interests of Buddhist scholar-officials during the Eastern Jin Dynasty on the Buddhist worldview. It can be seen that the overall composition of Youtiantaishanfu reflects the Buddhist worldview by comparing Tiantai Mountain to Vulture Peak and symbolically depicting the Buddha’s preaching on the mountain.
