영화·OTT시리즈 사실주의 연기연출 방법연구 - 켄 로치의 작품을 중심으로 -

초록

This study aims to reestablish the roles of directors and actors in the production of contemporary films and OTT series and to explore new possibilities in film directing methods. Ken Loach’s innovative approach to acting direction, which focuses on immersing actors in their roles to elicit natural performances, offers significant insights for modern filmmakers and directors of OTT series. Loach’s works have demonstrated methodologies that effectively maximize the authenticity of performances from both professional and non-professional actors. This study contains an analysis of his acting direction methodology in Social Realism, based on a study of his approach to acting direction. First, it examines his casting methods for non-professionals derived from Neorealism, and the “enhancement of presence” through ensembles of non-professional and professional actors. Second, it explores the director-actor communication that penetrates the independent realms of directing and acting, enhancing actors’ spontaneity through on-set directing methods that involve discussions about “given circumstances”. Third, it presents a technical plan that utilizes camera focal lengths and positioning to facilitate acting autonomy and actor immersion without interference. To achieve this, the paper divides and examines his directing methodologies into two main approaches: one towards the actors and another towards the techniques used on the set. In response to the increasing reliance on technology-oriented directing methods in contemporary film production, this study proposes an alternative strategy of acting direction that foregrounds actors’ spontaneity and immersive engagement. This approach aims to facilitate creative collaboration between directors and actors, ultimately contributing to the development of realistic performance aesthetics in cinematic practice.
