초록

This study analyzes the “placeness (topos)” manifested throughout Shin Kyeong-nim's entire poetic body, from Nongmu (農舞, Farmers' Dance) to his posthumous collections. It examines how the poet formalizes his actual living spaces―including his hometown of Noeun-myeon in Chungju, the Namhangang (Namhan River), Hongeun-dong, Anyang city, Samyang-dong, Gireum, and Jeongneung―as well as various locations visited through his travels, by analyzing the principles and characteristics of the “Road and Market” as poetic symbols. In this process, the study focuses on two creative origins: “narrative” and “experience.” While narratives are products of indirect experience that can be retold and adapted, the intensity of direct experience forms a profound emotional drive, encompassing “fear, horror, pangs of conscience, and the melancholy and anger resulting from the failure of mourning.” The ‘structure of affect’, imprinted through historical testimony and personal experience, primarily demonstrates the awakening or exploration of the poetic interior. In contrast, narrative serves as a force that constructs an archetypal and universal experience for that interiority. By tracing the evolution of these two origins found in the poet's early works, this research reveals that the symbolic topos of the “Road and Market” is a principle of dynamism and hybridity that sustains his poetry. Especially, this imagination of the “road” undergoes slight transformations in each period, yet consistently remains a form of “poetic spirit” or “self-consciousness” up until his later works
