- Abstract
- This paper introduces a framework for philosophical practice aimed at fostering secular spirituality through an intention-based practical inference. The paper unfolds as follows: Section 2 reconceptualizes secular spirituality as a modern interpretation of traditional reverence, defining it as an expression of the human spirit compatible with scientific principles. Section 3 examines the historical roots of philosophical practice as spiritual discipline, highlighting the contributions of Hadot and Nietzsche to the cultivation of the spirit. These insights are integrated into a comprehensive methodology for spiritual growth, focusing on achieving transcendence. Section 4 offers a detailed exploration of a method that systematically incorporates intention into practical inference. It reviews the conventional practical syllogism and Cohen's Logic-based Therapy, ultimately advocating von Wright's idea of practical inference as the foundational model.
