Abstract
Prunus×yedoensis Matsum. is a commonly planted street tree species in South Korea. In this study, we assessed the physiological characteristics of P.×yedoensis growing along streets in Goyang and Paju, located in Gyeonggi Province. Across the surveyed sites, net CO2 assimilation rates ranged from 15.8 to 18.1 µmol CO2 m-2ㆍs -1, chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm) values ranged from 0.81 to 0.85, and proline contents were between 3.4 and 3.7 mgㆍg-1 fresh weight. While the trees appeared to be under some degree of physiological stress, the levels of chlorophyll fluorescence and proline content suggested that the stress was not severe. These findings indicate that P.×yedoensis street trees in the studied areas are not experiencing significant physiological decline. Continued monitoring will be essential for evaluating the long-term physiological responses of urban trees under environmental stress.
