| dc.description.abstract | Algae are a newly recognised renewable energy source derived from living creatures. They are very remarkable energy and are attracting interest due to their potential to increase their market share in the biofuel industry. Algal-based biorefineries have drawn a lot of attention as a feedstock for biofuels; but, to meet the financial requirements of an algal biorefinery, high-value co-products from the algae fraction must be produced. Additionally, algal-based wastewater treatment is thought to be a lower energy alternative to traditional wastewater treatment, making it a good fit for procedures used in algae biorefineries. The food, medicine and beauty sectors may make use of the many biomolecules found in algae, including proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, pigments, vitamins and antioxidants. Researchers from all across the world are focusing their attention on these aspects. As of their high biomass output, low cultivation area requirements and ability to produce important metabolites, algae can be a good alternative to other renewable resources. In this chapter we focus primarily on the potentials, qualities and implication of algae as a sustainable renewable resource. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
