Recent work in Nature by Khalil's group uncovers the mystery of structural degradation in Li- and Mn-rich cathodes to be tied with the accumulated nanostrain and lattice displacement during the operation of the cell. These effects are the real culprit in driving structural and oxygen loss, leading to rapid voltage decay.-
