This paper aims to analyze the similarity between Sinclair’s inner journey in Damien and the elements in Campbell’s mythology. In order to deal with the topic, I have been discussing the overcoming of antagonistic thinking, the narrative structure of the hero’s journey, and the grace of the harmonious goddess under the big framework of inner travel. I think the common problem consciousness between Hesse and Campbell is the pursuit of rationality based on science and technology, and the fact that individuals live in a massively grouped society, losing their courage to confront the inner world, their own spiritual world. Consequently, I assert the problem of self-realization for two people is closely related to the process of reflection and criticism of the inhuman and degraded appearance of modern civilized society, and it is an alternative to solve the problems of modern society. For those of us who are living in a time of rapid change, this world reading of Hesse and Campbell is an opportunity to move away from the blind violence of the times and to give important implications on how to live independently and independently.-
