Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify the relationship among competitive state anxiety, burnout, and exercise commitment of collegiate Taekwondo athletes. For this, data were collected from 397 athletes (male=241, female=146) registered in Korea Taekwondo Association as an athlete. After data collection, descriptive statistics, correlation, and structural equation model were conducted to test the research model. The result of this study revealed as follows. First, cognitive anxiety had a positive effect on burnout, while self-confidence had a negative effect. Second, cognitive and somatic anxiety influence positively cognitive and behavioral commitment. Third, burnout had negative effect on cognitive and behavioral commitment. In conclusion, cognitive anxiety, the sub-factor of competitive state anxiety, increases burnout, contrastively self-confidence prevents burnout of collegiate Taekwondo athletes. Furthermore, competitive state anxiety and burnout were identified as factors that hinder collegiate Taekwondo athletes' sport commitment.
