- Abstract
- This study aimed to survey the production costs and operational performance of Jeju horse farms, which have suffered significant losses due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic preventing horse racing. 30 Jeju horse farms were surveyed and analyzed. Most of these farms are family-run operations, and smaller farms face greater difficulties in management. Larger farms tend to be more proactive in acquiring information and maximizing profits, resulting in higher relative profitability. Specifically, the production costs for largescale farms were lower at 3.7 million won compared to 3.98 million won for medium-sized farms and 4.85 million won for small farms. Additionally, the total income for large-scale farms was relatively higher, with 1.52 million won compared to 1.15 million won for small farms and 1.1 million won for medium-sized farms, indicating the benefits of scale in large-scale farm operations. To enhance the efficiency of Jeju horse farms, active investment and scaling up appear to be necessary.
