| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to analyze how the cinematographic use of sound gives the aesthetic value. Especially, we try to examine the aesthetic methodology that extends and creates meaning by affecting the visual images through three boundaries of the sound and the point of audition. First, let me examine the study of Michele Sion and David Sonnenschein’s theories of the sound. This is because Sion and Sonnenschein established the concept through the sound definition and the analysis of existing movies. Second, we analyze some sequences of Terrence Malick’s <The Tree of Life> (2011) to see how it gets aesthetic effects by the use of sound combined with the visual images. In particular, we will focus on how the visual images changes and expands through sound production. The sound can only be interacted when it constantly penetrates and interferes with the image, and the expansion through the interaction maximizes the mise-en-scene. Ultimately, the aesthetic independence of sound means the use of rich sounds that combine and compete fiercely with this visual images. Doubling and expanding of the sound means that audiovisual interactions is the ambiguous attraction of these sounds. | - |
