By analyzing four Korean versions of The Great Gatsby, the paper focuses on the feminist practice in Korea, where literary translations are still being evaluated mainly by the traditional criteria of fidelity and readability. For the future of Korean literary translation, however, we should look into the currents of modern translation studies. Many researchers in the fields of translation are already getting interested in postmodern agendas such as deconstruction, post-colonialism, and feminism among others. So, they explore the unique but exacting problems of cross-cultural communication, acknowledging the relative autonomy of the translated text and its translator. Having considered language to be a major cause of women's oppression, a group of Quebec feminist writers and translators questions aspects of traditional gender characteristics and identity represented in the male writings. This feminist group has realized how important it is for them, as creators rather than reproducers, to assume interventionist strategies in their practices. The list of their translation strategies includes supplementing, prefacing and footnoting, and hijacking. This study has analyzed four Korean translations of The Great Gatsby to figure out to what extent the feminist strategies had been used in them. The finding is disappointing that the strategies of feminist translation are not clearly spotted in the four texts of Korean translation. Although there has been seen a gradual change of language for women, this study shows that there is no noticeable change in feminist practice in Korean literary translation.-
