Abstract
A DSLR camera shooting and a digital workflows are now common in a film industry. For most filmmakers, it is easy to access the information about digital camera techniques through various sources. They can have more than enough knowledge to get the best imagery for their films. However, the sound techniques for film production still remain of secondary importance and filmmakers or sound designers face unwanted problems caused by insufficient knowledge and information. This causes unnecessary money and time spending for both independent filmmakers with a low budget and commercial ones with a bid budget and professional staffs. And moreover, it hurts the results of the final outcome. This thesis focuses on achieving the best possible quality of production sound, especially for improving location sound techniques for DSLR cameras. Firstly, it discusses the reason of the importance of location sound especially for independent and low budget filmmakers. Secondly, it reviews the distinctive features of DSLR cameras, the basic sound capturing rules and the useful skills for microphones. And thirdly, it suggests several alternative approaches to prevent crucial mistakes and save time and budget.
