Abstract

The Tibetan Kingdom made a massive attack on the Tuyuhun Kingdom in August, 660. The Tuyuhun requested an aid to the Tang Dynasty but the demand was rejected. It was because the Tang Dynasty was dispatching a large scale force to the Baekje Kingdom at the time. In 663, the Tibetan Kingdom overtook the entire territory of the Tuyuhun and the Tang Dynasty again declined Tuyuhun's request for an aid due to his campaign to the Korean Peninsula. In 668, the Tang Dynasty finally overthrew the Goguryeo Kingdom. But in the following year, the Tang Dynasty had to face the restoration movement of Goguryeo people and conflicts with the Silla Kingdom. In September, 669, the Tang government considered to make an attack on the Tibetan Empire. But the Tang Dynasty gave priority to the Korean issue. the Tibetan Empire marched against the Western Regions in April, 670, and took Four Garrison Commands of An-xi. Thus the Tang Dynasty sent out massive forces and attacked the Tibetan Empire. But the campaign had faced a completed defeat in Dafeichuan in August, 670. Despite the significant failure, the Tang Dynasty could not take a decisive action on the matter. It was because of the Tang-Silla War occurred in April, 670. The war went against the Tang Dynasty and he had to withdraw the entire forces from the Korean Peninsula in 676. The Tang Dynasty was attached to the Korean issue excessively and it caused the loss of the Western Regions by allowing the raise of the Tibetan Empire
